It was a dream come true for one footy fan as Swim Student, Austin ran onto the field with the fighting fury from Tigerland when Richmond Tigers took on the GWS Giants at Sunday’s AFLW clash held at Mildura Sporting Precinct.

Dressed in his new footy gear, the normally chatty Austin was left speechless as he nervously waited for his big moment to arrive, but it was all smiles as the team ran out of the change rooms, scooping Austin up and running out onto the field with him alongside them.

Speaking to Austin after the game he said “they ran super-fast” and that it was “pretty cool” to be out there with the team on the oval.

Austin wasn’t the only member to enjoy a rare on-field experience though with Mildura Waves Member, Gayle and her granddaughter Kylah given the honour of presenting the official match ball to the umpires as part of the pre-game proceedings. Even the heavy rain couldn’t dampen their spirits as they listened to the Club’s special guest speakers at the pre-game function before sharing a special family moment together on field.

With the Tigers coming away with a 9.4 (58) to 2.3 (15) win a great showcase of AFLW was capped off by local superstar, Courtney Wakefield, nailing a goal late in the 4th term in front of her home crowd.
