The Mildura region got stepping in a big way this year, with an overwhelming 231,290,513 steps recorded in this year’s annual 10,000 Steps Challenge.

Through our proud partnership, Sunraysia Community Health Services and Mildura Waves joined forces to deliver a month long challenge aimed at encouraging the community to get moving, be active and move towards a healthier lifestyle.

While 10,000 steps a day might seem like a lot, the Challenge aims to encourage people to set achievable goals towards a more active lifestyle by increasing their daily step count with a range of challenges, competitions and prizes offered throughout to motivate and incentivise people to join in.

With 870 individuals signing up to this year’s challenge, the post survey results showed huge improvements in people’s health and wellbeing, including:

  • 87% self-reported an increase in physical activity
  • 92% self-reported an increase in physical activity awareness
  • 69% self-reported improved mental health and wellbeing
  • 62% self-reported improved workplace morale
  • And best of all 98% of respondents said they would do it all again!

Leading the charge this year was Mildura Waves’ own Jenny Blagus who was awarded the Highest Individual Stepper of the Challenge – A big congratulations to Jenny for a stellar effort and setting the benchmark for others to follow!
