It’s been years in the making, but it was well worth the wait as Mildura Waves played host to the 2022 Victorian Country State Long Course Swimming Championships (22-24 January).
Coordinated by the Mildura Swimming Club and in partnership with Aligned Leisure, Mildura Rural City Council, and the Victorian State Government, the event saw over 550 swimmers converge on Mildura to showcase their talent on the big stage, with our local swimmers proudly flying the flag for our region and putting on an impressive display in front of the 1,500+ spectators!
While the weather was warm outside the pool, it was nothing compared to the hotly contested podium places in the pool, with over 150 events contended across all age classes, including both individual and relay events. A strong performance from our local team saw us coming away with a number of finals appearances and PBs, capped off by a bronze and silver medal to young local talent, Willem Allen.

With this year’s event now a wrap, the Club are looking forward to a well-deserved rest before preparation for the next local pennant in February.
Aligned Leisure wishes to acknowledge the following organisations and individuals:
The committee members and volunteers of Mildura Swimming Club for their professionalism, dedication and efforts across the weekend to see everything run smoothly. The commitment, thoughtfulness and care that went into successfully delivering an event of this size was nothing short of incredible. Well done to all.
Swimming Victoria, for giving Mildura the opportunity to host an event of this caliber, and for their trust and support in our local Club to deliver a high-quality event.
Mildura Rural City Council, for their tireless efforts in preparing the facility in readiness for the event, including their on the ground technical support throughout the event.
All clubs, coaches, officials and spectators who travelled from right across the state to attend. The respect shown for our facility and team from all in attendances was greatly appreciated.
Lastly, a special thanks to Josh Barila and Elly Plummer of Mildura Swimming Club who worked closely with our Mildura Waves team to make all of this possible. If it wasn’t for your efforts in firstly securing this event and then dedicating the best part of 2 years into coordinating everything, our region never would have been able to experience an event like this. It’s been an incredible journey to be a part of and our entire team are proud to have been involved. A very big and heartfelt thank you to you both.
